It&#8217;s a historic anniversary year for the Dutch queer community. We&#8217;re celebrating that <strong>30 years ago, we organized our very first iconic Canal Parade<\/strong>, and that the Netherlands has had <strong>equal marriage for 25 years<\/strong> now.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To celebrate, the world&#8217;s largest LGBTQ+ spectacle is coming to our capital this year: <strong>WorldPride 2026<\/strong>. But what exactly is the difference between our familiar, annual Pride Amsterdam and this international mega-event? We\u2019ll explain it to you over an ice-cold cocktail.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Regular Amsterdam Pride: Our annual party on the canals<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Every year around late July and early August, the city is dedicated to the regular Pride Amsterdam. This is our own local and national celebration. For a week, we celebrate freedom with street parties, the famous Canal Parade, and that typically Amsterdam, free-spirited atmosphere. It\u2019s intimate, familiar, and deeply rooted in Amsterdam\u2019s nightlife and hospitality scene.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>WorldPride: The &#8216;Olympic Games&#8217; of the queer community<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">WorldPride is of a completely different caliber. This is an international licensed event that is only awarded to a specific global city every few years\u2014comparable to the Olympic Games or the Eurovision Song Contest. Cities have to lobby for years for this. This year, Amsterdam has the honor of welcoming the global community under the universal theme <strong>&#8216;UNITY&#8217;<\/strong>.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The main differences at a glance:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Duration and scale:<\/strong> While the regular Pride often lasts a week, WorldPride takes over the city for more than two weeks (from July 25 to August 8, 2026). Millions of international visitors are expected. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>International impact:<\/strong> In addition to the parties, activists, politicians, and human rights organizations from all over the world travel to Amsterdam for large-scale congresses and humanitarian conferences.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Double the marches:<\/strong> In addition to the traditional opening with the Pride Walk on July 25, we close on Saturday, August 8, with the massive <strong>WorldPride March<\/strong>\u2014an immense, international protest and celebration march full of global delegations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Toasting to Unity (and a bit of Amsterdam character)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whether you&#8217;re dancing along the Prinsengracht during the Canal Parade on August 1, or seeking international solidarity during the WorldPride March: this edition will go down in history.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At Amsterdam Republic, we proudly celebrate this connection and diversity.
