We love it and guess what, we are not the only ones. Together we are celebrating this nostalgic spread today because it is International Peanut Butter Day, YAY.
Why is it actually called peanut CHEESE? Here’s why. In 1948, Calvé brought Peanutbutter from America to the Netherlands. The word ‘butter’ could not be translated to ‘boter’ because this was a protected name. The word butter could only be used for roomboter.
But why ‘cheese’? Liver cheese was very popular at that time, which also does not contain cheese but was made in the shape of a block of cheese. To piggyback on this popularity, it was called peanut cheese. Mystery solved.
We have become big and strong because of it, but we are now going to consume it in a different way (read with Vodka). Happy International Peanut Butter Day!!
