Shipping and returns

You may change your mind after ordering or receiving your order. We don’t make a fuss about this and give everyone 30 days to reconsider. You can read the rules below;

Returns

You have 30 days from the date of purchase to return the item. To be eligible for a refund of your purchase price, the item must be in its original, unopened packaging. The item must be returned to us in the condition you received it. After approval of your return, the purchase price – any shipping costs – will be refunded within 14 days via the method you paid with. Products that have been removed from the packaging or whose seal (tape) of the packaging is damaged cannot be returned.

Refunds

You are responsible for sending the returned item to us. Once received, you will receive a message and proof of receipt. We will then check whether it meets the return conditions. Returns must first be registered via our website. The shipping costs are at your own expense.

Shipping

We ship within the Netherlands with UPS / DHL or PostNL. We also advise you to return your item via one of these carriers. Shipping costs are not refunded. Shipments are always sent to the order address; changing the delivery address is only possible by email.

Cancellations

Your order can be canceled free of charge until the moment we have created a shipping label. Once this has been created, we charge a ‘restocking fee’ of 10% to retrieve the item from the carrier.

Damage during shipment

We always use the best carriers for your region. However, it sometimes happens that a carrier is careless with a package. It is therefore important that you inspect your package carefully upon receipt before signing for it. If the box is damaged, you can refuse the order at the door. If this is not possible, take a photo immediately and send it to our customer service; do not open the package.

Guaranteed working method

It is of great importance to Amsterdam Republic that alcohol is sold responsibly, including online. Amsterdam Republic absolutely does not want to sell alcohol to young people under the age of eighteen.

This document provides insight into the way Amsterdam Republic implements this responsible distance selling. This fulfills the requirement set out in Article 20A paragraph 1 sub b of the Alcohol Act that one must have a method that guarantees that the alcoholic beverage is only delivered to the address of the addressee or to a distribution point and that the age of the person to whom the alcoholic beverage is provided is determined and that this method is also used.

This document is always up-to-date. This means that the document is updated with every change in the situation and is reviewed annually. The document contains a description of:

  • the process used to monitor the age limit and comply with the applicable obligations;
  • the way in which this method is made known and transparent to employees;
  • the control of the correct compliance with the process and the way in which any corrections are implemented.

1. Process (in accordance with Article 5.2, paragraph 1 under a and b of the Alcohol Decree)

Online orders:

For online orders via our webshop it is mandatory that the buyer purchases commercially and indicates that they are at least 18 years of age or older. For this purpose, we have introduced various checks by means of pop-ups on our sites, and we also make the buyer aware of the fact that we do not sell alcoholic beverages to persons under the age of 18 by means of the NIX18 logo on the sites.

We do not accept telephone orders and refer customers to our webshop if they request this. Via our webshop we work with an automated system that enters orders directly into our cash register, which reduces the administrative burden.

Upon delivery by external delivery services, an age check will always be carried out. The recipient must show a valid proof of identity, in accordance with Article 20 paragraph 2 of the Alcohol Act. For delivery via an external delivery person, PostNL, we pay an extra surcharge so that the delivery services meet three requirements upon delivery, namely:

  • Age check 18+
  • Signature for receipt
  • Only deliver to the specified address

Delivering to the neighbors, or leaving alcoholic beverages behind without anyone being home, is not allowed. The package will be taken back by the delivery person. In the case of external delivery, the package will be taken to a collection location. The package can be picked up within a week upon presentation of a valid proof of identification, after which the package will be returned to Amsterdam Republic. In the case of our own delivery, the package will be taken back and can be picked up in our store, or offered for shipment again. The shipping costs are for the account of the buyer.

2. Information provision to employees (in accordance with Article 5.2, paragraph 1 under c of the Alcohol Decree)

All our employees are informed about this guaranteed working method and are regularly checked on this. In the event of any changes to the working method or points of attention that require additional explanation, employees are informed prior to their service. Finally, a team meeting is held every quarter where the policy regarding the sale of alcohol is also discussed.

3. Control (in accordance with Article 5.2, paragraph 1 under d of the Alcohol Decree)

The team evaluates the guaranteed working method every year and adjusts it where necessary.

When delivered by external parties, it is checked on a random basis whether the required age check is complied with. On the one hand, we do this by checking in the Track & Trace code whether the customer has been checked for identification and has signed for receipt. On the other hand, we do this by carrying out random checks with delivery to our own address.

If it appears that an external party is not working according to the agreements, they will be addressed about this and the agreements will be adjusted immediately.
